Macho Mist
Macho on  the  western movie set at Alamo Village at the Shahan
HV Ranch near Brackettville, Texas.
This is the movie set where over 100 westerns were filmed,
including John Wayne's,  "The Alamo".

Macho Mist (SSMA# 1369),  foaled 3-31-91, was bred and raised on the Blazing
Saddles Ranch in Winona, Texas.   He is out of the sire,
Tomachichi (SSMA
#1109) and Misty (SSMA #749) and is a light dun Medicine Hat paint.  He was
trained and ridden by Mac McSwain.  Mac rode Macho to a NATRC National
Championship in 1997.  Out of nine Open rides, Macho won 4 firsts, 3 seconds,
and 2 fourth places.  The next year, Josh McSwain rode Macho as a Junior
Open rider and Macho won another National Championship in just seven
rides!  Macho placed consistently again with 3 firsts, 3 seconds and 1 fourth
place.  Macho has 1180 competition miles in NATRC.  Macho is now starting a
new trail career in endurance riding through AERC.

I bought Macho in 2002 from Mac's sister-in-law.  He hadn't been ridden much
in the last 2 years, and we put shoes on him and took him to the Hill Country
State Natural Area near Bandera, Texas.  It was like he'd been ridden the day
before.  Since purchasing Macho, I've ridden him extensively on the trails all
over Texas.
My husband and I ride all over the Texas Hill Country area where the terrain
is very hilly and rocky.  I've done a couple CTR's with him, and I have taken
him to longhorn cattle drives at the YO Ranch at Mountain Home, TX and at
the Shahan HV Ranch at Brackettville, Texas.

In 2005, I saw an article about a project that an Ohio equine artist Karen
Brenner initiated called, "The Beautiful Horses of Texas".
(www.karenbrenner.com)  Karen was looking for beautiful horses in Texas of
all breeds to include in a series of paintings.
I nominated Macho Mist, sending in a story about him and his
accomplishments as well as photos.
Macho was one of the horses selected to be included in her project.
In June of 2005, Karen Brenner visited our farm and photographed
Macho in various poses and also running freely in the pasture.
She selected a photo of Macho, striding out at a big trot,
to be the basis of for her painting of Macho.
As of early 2006,
Karen is finishing the last paintings in this project
including the painting of Macho.
Karen will exhibit the paintings at major horse expos, and will showcase "The
Beautiful Horses of Texas"
paintings at Sheplers in Austin, Texas,
July 7-9, 2006.

I give credit to Mac and Josh McSwain for Macho's many NATRC
accomplishments and exceptional training.  I am very pleased that I was able
to purchase such an exceptional horse from the McSwain family.  Macho is a
kind, giving horse who also knows self-preservation.  He is a joy to ride down
the trail, whether the trail is flat and easy, or the most challenging, difficult
of trails.

Mac will tell the story that on one roundup,
when Macho was about 3 years old, one of
the workers tried to catch up to Macho on
a four wheeler and couldn't get close, even at top speed.

Macho was also one of the hardest horses to
break on the ranch.  Even after he was broke,
he spooked at everything!
After Mac rode him in a few NATRC rides, he
calmed down and turned into the best horse.  Josh
enjoyed riding him, and we always knew Macho
would take care of him.

Macho has a very small cross under his right eye.
We called him our holy horse.  He and Tomachichi
have profiles of a face in the shield on their right flank.
I just noticed that when I looked at Macho's pictures.
